Dr. Jamaluddin Ahmed’s career is a testament to his expertise in finance, commitment to public service, and dedication to academic excellence. His leadership roles across various sectors, coupled with his extensive research and social contributions, make him a prominent figure in Bangladesh’s economic and political landscape. Dr. Ahmed continues to inspire through his work, shaping the financial and economic frameworks within which Bangladesh operates. Dr. Ahmed obtained his Bachelor’s degree with Honors in Accounting from Dhaka University in 1977, followed by a Master’s degree in Accounting in 1978, where he secured a first-class distinction. His pursuit of knowledge led him to the University of Wales, UK, where he completed his PhD in 1996 at Cardiff Business School. His dissertation focused on “The Adverse Effect of Currency Devaluation on the Foreign Borrower Enterprises of Bangladesh,” a subject of significant importance to developing economies. Dr. Ahmed’s academic credentials are further strengthened by his associate membership at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) in 1985 and his fellowship in 1990.

- Banking and Financial Institutions: Dr. Ahmed has been deeply involved in the banking sector, notably serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Janata Bank Limited from August 2019 to July 2020. He was also a Member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Board Audit Committee of Janata Bank from 2008 to 2014. His contributions extend to the Central Bank of Bangladesh, where he served as a Member of the Board of Directors (2016-2019) and Financial Adviser to the Board Audit Committee (2014-2015).
- Corporate Governance and Economic Development: Dr. Ahmed’s influence is evident in his roles with various corporations, education and economic institutions. He has been the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (2010), General Secretary of the Bangladesh Economic Association (2015-present), and a Member of the Board of Directors of Dhaka Stock Exchange Limited (2010). His strategic insights have guided companies like Grameen Phone Ltd., where he has been a Member of the Board of Directors since 2011, and Emerging Credit Rating Limited, where he has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors since 2009. He was appointed as syndicate member of BUET (2023-2024) and finally also served in the Board of Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited as a Member of the Board & Chairman of the Audit Committee from 2004-2019.
